Grindaplassen - a gem with a historical twist

Fantastic location all to yourself in the middle of nature

Are you looking for a place where time stands still, where you can be completely alone and close to nature? Then we have the place for you: Grindaplassen - a gem with a historical twist. It should be experienced!

When we call Grindaplassen a pearl with a historical twist, it's because this cabin is built on the walls of an old homestead, hence the name Grindaplassen. The croft itself was called Hjellupgrinden, and farming has been practiced here since at least 1731 and perhaps longer. The site was in continuous operation until the end of the 20th century. We know that the last resident was a well-known and skilled yacht builder named Johan Arnt Hjellupgrind, according to "Kulturminner i Nord-Trøndelag III- Jekter og jektfart fra Innherred", a collection of articles edited by Olav L. Orange. Johan Arnt lived at Grindaplassen until he died in 1922. After that, the place was vacated. Johan Arnt built several large yachts that were in use on the Trondheimsfjord, and perhaps some of them were even used for fishing in Lofoten, as described in Johan Bojer's "The Last Viking".

Our cabin at Grindaplassen was built by Eivind Svedal around 1965 on the old walls of the main house of the homestead. Eivind Svedal was a trained blacksmith and used his artistic skills to design the massive fireplace that is still the focal point of the cabin today. The entire cabin was completely renovated and had water and electricity installed in 2017, but the cozy wilderness style was retained. The interior is kept in the old style, and as in our other rental units, we are also concerned with reuse, but not at the expense of comfort. Here you will find most of the necessary equipment for a good stay; both a washing machine, dishwasher and most of the kitchen equipment. The cabin has two small bedrooms with a double bed in each, as well as a small loft with two mattresses on the floor. Outside the cabin there is also a built-up fire pit that can be used for grilling and cozying up in both summer and winter.

At Grindaplassen you can feel history come alive, and you get the feeling that time stands still. You are close to nature with a view of the Trondheimsfjord and the fantastic, ever-changing light. From the large windows in the living room of the cabin, you can sit and enjoy the view and observe nature and wildlife. The area is often visited by both deer and elk, and if you're lucky you may also see otters, owls and eagles. In the forest around Grindaplassen there are plenty of chanterelles and other tasty mushrooms in the fall, and wild raspberries are plentiful. Throughout the summer, Hjellup Fjordbo's friendly Boer goats graze in the area around the cabin. A hundred meters below the cabin is Hylla, a popular spot for swimming and outdoor activities. Here you will find, among other things, the "Hyllasteinen", which according to legend is said to have come there after Våttån, the troll who lived on Våttåhaugen, threw it in anger at the church bells that disturbed him. We'll leave it to others to decide whether the legend is true...

Grindaplassen is a historical gem, and if you love nature and need to retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this really is the place to find peace and quiet. The great atmosphere here will make you relax and let go of stress.
